Lily started with us in March 2019 as an apprentice, studying Business Administration Level 2. She is settling in well as part of the team and getting stuck into her role, initially focusing on recruitment.
Speaking following her recent appointment, Alan Lingwood, Director, said: “We have a history of promoting from within at Lingwood Security Management, so it's great to see a new face arriving as an Apprentice, with high hopes for the future about where her career at this company can take her. Best of luck in your first few weeks Lily.”
We asked Lily a few questions as part of her induction process. Here is what she said:
How did you first get involved with Lingwood Security Management?
I applied for an apprenticeship through the Lancaster and Morecambe college, and then I was offered an interview with Lingwood and shortly after started working with them.
What was your first impression of Lingwood Security Management?
My first impressions were that the whole team are very close, I like that this is a family business. I think that the management is great, everyone is nice. I know I can go to any member of staff and they will help me with anything I need.
What's your first memory of working at Lingwood Security Management?
My first memory of working at Lingwood Security was Lorette teaching me all the systems, I’ve picked this up quickly. I am still learning a lot. Everyone has been helpful. Lorette has helped me with a lot, any questions I have had, and she has had good suggestions such as screenshotting systems; vetting and roster and writing notes on them.
What has surprised you most about working at Lingwood Security Management?
Every day is different, I am learning a lot more than I thought and it’s giving me more confidence in myself. The recruitment side of work is challenging but it’s good as it’s giving me a boost of confidence doing something completely different and nothing like I’ve done before. Everyone is helpful.
What do you find most challenging about your work?
I think the most challenging thing about my work is learning the skills and knowledge required to becoming more confident within my role. I know this will come with time and working hard, since my first day I believe I have learnt a lot already.
What's the best/worst thing to happen since you started working at Lingwood Security Management?
The best is everyone making me feel welcome. I didn’t know what to expect coming into an office environment but every week here so far, I’ve learnt lots of new things and met some nice people. There isn’t anything bad that has happened.
If you could change one thing about Lingwood Security Management what would it be?
Nothing! There isn’t anything I would change. I might be able to add to future when I learn more about the business.
What do you wish other people knew about Lingwood Security Management?
That it is a growing business in lots of areas and not only security.
What interesting characters have you worked with at Lingwood Security Management?
I am already working with recruitment, having to phone job applicants and I have come across a lot of different and interesting characters.
What do you think will change at Lingwood Security Management over the next five years, or in the industry as a whole?
I think Lingwood Security will grow even more and expand to even more sites across the country.
If you weren't working at Lingwood Security Management, what would you be doing instead, or what would your life be like?
I would probably still be working full time in my previous job. I am happy Lingwood have given me the opportunity to do something new though, I enjoy the work and look forward to the future with them. Within my first month, I have already learnt so much.
How would someone describe you?
I think they would describe me as kind and approachable.
What do you do when you aren't working?
I like to keep active. I usually go on runs or walks outside of work and see family and friends, I am very family orientated.
